Position Summary The Veterinary Technician supports veterinarians in the care and treatment of animals by performing medical, diagnostic, and clinical tasks. This role involves hands-on patient care, client education, and ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient clinical environment. Veterinary Technicians play a key role in delivering high-quality healthcare to companion animals and supporting the overall operations of the veterinary practice.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Support
Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
Perform diagnostic tests, including bloodwork, urinalysis, radiographs, and other laboratory procedures.
Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed.
Monitor anesthesia, maintain surgical equipment, and provide intraoperative support.
Conduct physical assessments and record patient vitals accurately.
Patient Care
Provide compassionate handling and restraint of animals in a low-stress manner.
Monitor hospitalized patients and document changes in condition.
Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter placement, bandaging, and therapeutic treatments.
Ensure proper nutrition, comfort, and cleanliness for all animals in care.
Client Communication & Education
Explain treatment plans, medications, and home-care instructions clearly to pet owners.
Support clients through challenging or emotional situations with empathy and professionalism.
Schedule appointments, answer medical-related questions, and contribute to a positive client experience.
Facility & Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with hospital standards.
Clean and sterilize equipment, exam rooms, kennels, and surgical areas.
Manage inventory of medications, vaccines, and supplies.
Adhere to safety protocols, infection control standards, and legal regulations.
Qualifications Required
Associate degree in Veterinary Technology (or equivalent).
Current certification/licensure as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT), depending on state requirements.
Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, medical terminology, and clinical procedures.
Ability to safely handle animals of all sizes and temperaments.
Preferred
1–3 years of clinical experience.
Experience with anesthesia monitoring, dental cleanings, or advanced diagnostics.
Familiarity with veterinary software (e.g., Cornerstone, AVImark).
